💌 Exploring ass effect, issues with OnlyFans, and eldritch localization in Mr. Hands' Naughty List #19
Hello, lovelies!
You’ve probably spotted it already, but I’ve updated the banner slightly. There wasn’t anything wrong with the old banner, but I’m hoping to streamline my brand a bit more. The Mrs says it’s “very porny” so I’m already calling it a success! 😄
If you’re looking for the latest and greatest in adult gaming news, look no further than my Naughty List! Every week I bring you industry insights, development tips, and the hottest games to try out. And subscribers get it all from the comfort of their inbox. 💖
Now let’s get into it!
Subverse gets ready to launch 🚀
Studio F.O.W. has put out a launch trailer for Subverse and they’re not afraid to come out guns blazing. The trailer shows off both the shooting and the strategic gameplay. But more importantly, all the women you can add to your crew:
I’m afraid you’ll have to click through to see the trailer since both the game and the video are intended for an adult audience. 😁
The game definitely looks highly polished already. I think it’s already very ambitious to combine a top-down shooter with a turn-based strategy game, but to then also make it NSFW? That shows dedication to the craft!
Subverse is coming to Steam (and other platforms) on March 26th.
Banks still don’t like sex work 🔞
There was controversy this week on the heels of a report that the owners of OnlyFans might be involved in some shady business. The President of the Adult Performance Artists Guild warned people to withdraw their funds from the platform as soon as possible:
Vice dove into the report and points out that there actually aren’t any immediate concerns at the moment:
The gist of the Forensic News story is that Radvinsky and his accounts are flagged in a number of SARs for suspicious transfers, but the reports don't include any concrete evidence of wrongdoing and, in most cases, there are not even clear accusations.
That said, banks are still extremely skittish when it comes to processing payments for sex workers. They tend to err on the side of caution and tend to employ a strategy of “freeze first, ask questions later”. Most recently, PornHub was blocked from payment processing by Visa and Mastercard. If you do have pending funds on OnlyFans, it’s not a bad idea to consider cashing out earlier rather than later.
And finally, as I do love to point out, Paypal is not much better either:

Localization test or E̶͖͆l̸̞̓d̷̤̓r̴̞͝ï̴̪t̴͇̂c̵̮̐h̵͕͑ ̵̖̂h̸͛͜o̷̹̿r̷͔̄r̸̥̆o̸͖̽r̷͕̄?
It’s an older article, but I believe it remains very relevant. Tim Brandall wrote a nice explainer on how they use pseudo-localization at Netflix. The idea is to use simulated localization as a way to catch common errors when working on user interfaces:
Think of it as a fake translation that remains readable to an English-speaking developer, and allows them to test for translation-related expansion, among other important things.
While these ideas may not be perfectly applicable to your own game, there are definitely easy things you can do. Anisa points out that using W’s is a good way to check if you have left enough space:

If you’re working on your own game, how are you dealing with localization? Let me know in the comments!

Writing Wrap-Up 📖
Failbetter Games has put up an excellent post detailing their strategy for the art direction on Mask of the Rose:
[The decision to make characters appear solid and painterly] has created some interesting challenges. Visual novel characters have to be expressive [and] make visual sense against multiple backgrounds.
Wired wrote about the rise of unapologetically erotic LGBTQ+ games:
But while Cyberpunk was criticized for its bad sex—and for flubbing LGBTQ+ representation—the erotic indie title Hardcoded was gathering praise for its explicit, queer-friendly sexuality set against a dystopian cyberpunk backdrop.
PCGamer reports that queer space opera A Long Journey To An Uncertain End was successfully crowdfunded:
Games about a spaceship full of rag-tag scoundrels on the run from the space cops are nothing new. But it's rare that one pits you as the ship itself—and the passengers you're carrying aren't the only ones with a messy past.
LewdPixels has an in-depth article up about Sanguine Rose:
[Sanguine Rose is] a psychological mind game. Pacing is slow and there’s a focus on […] mak[ing] important and hard decisions. […] It’s easy to judge characters […], but you have to focus on what they say and how they act in different situations.
MangaGamer writes about how Tada mode came about for Rance Quest Magnum:
[Rance series director TADA] has even released several patches, on his own time, that gently tweak mechanics, or adds in new characters. […] TADA completely re-did the easy mode from the game into a simpler format.
Blerdy Otome has a list of visual novel games you can fit in a weekend:
Most of us are still kicking it in our homes, but that doesn’t mean the rest of the world stops. Between work, school, and family, [i]t means that our hobbies get relegated to the weekends (or late into the night).
GameSpew has put up a preview of Ambition: A Minuet in Power:
You play as the young Yvette who travels to Paris to meet Armand, the love of her life – but when she arrives no one seems to know who or where he is. Finding yourself homeless and loveless, your only option is to flirt, gossip and climb your way into aristocracy using every trick in the book.
Cheeky chuckle 🤭
