Hey, naughty news fans! I find myself at a bit of a crossroads. Although I want to keep writing this newsletter every week, I’m finding it harder and harder to make time for it. Most days now, I start working at 8 AM with the intention of stopping early but end up working until 6 PM anyway. AAA games are complicated software, and there’s just too much to take care of right now. As a UI programmer on this game, I write code in C++, JavaScript, Typescript, Sass, and Python. Yes, that makes me a unicorn, and I’m compensated accordingly. But I now find myself having to explain all our processes and workflows to the for four (!) new team members that joined in the past couple of months.
It might sound simple. But if writing these newsletters doesn't fit in your schedule anymore... then just don't do it :) Or if you don't want to give it up entirly -You can also make a blog instead, and just update it whenever you feel like it. Or maybe do the occasional article for another website? Well anyway- life is short; better spend it on things that give you joy :)
I really like the newsletter, though honestly, I don’t check in weekly like clockwork. I finally installed the substack app, so I’ll be more on top of it. I hope your job relaxes a bit soon. Ultimately you do this because you want to. I certainly wouldn’t mind if it slowed down a bit. Write it when you can and want to. Screw the deadlines.
